Among William Mackey's primary interests is the evolving impact of Web 2.0 that is changing the ways in which software developers and end-users use the web as a platform. More specifically, he is seeking ways to exploit such trends in developing new business opportunities on a global basis.

Outside of his business career, William Mackey enjoys a widely varied assortment of pursuits and activities. He serves as a volunteer staff producer and announcer in the Classical Music Department at WWUH Radio 91.3 FM, a public alternative radio station operated by the University of Hartford.

He is also active in a number of civic organizations, including the Harvard Business School Club of Connecticut, Harvard Club of Northern Connecticut, President's College of the University of Hartford, MIT Enterprise Forum, and World Affairs Council. His recreational activities include canoeing, cycling, fly-fishing, golf, horseback riding, sailing, skiing, swimming, walking, and hiking.
